About us

Travel by theme, not by map.

A map, camera and travel notes laid out while planning a journey

What The Visit Series is

The Visit Series is an independent travel editorial website. We create curated collections of places around the world that share a single theme: lighthouses, night markets, historic libraries, hot springs, colourful streets and scenic train journeys. Each series gathers a handful of places, typically between five and six, and presents them side by side with practical notes and photography.

Our idea is simple. Pick a series, collect the visits.

Why we organise places by theme

Most travel planning starts with a country or a city. We start with an experience. If you love the feeling of standing in a quiet reading room, or watching the sea from a headland, a theme can point you toward places you might never have searched for. It also lets you compare how different cultures and landscapes interpret the same idea.

Thematic collections make it easier to plan future visits too. A series can become a long-term travel wish list, something to return to over many years, one place at a time.

Our editorial approach

We select places that clearly express the theme of their series, that are reasonably accessible to visitors, and that offer something distinct from the other places in the same collection. We aim for geographical variety where it makes sense.

  • We write original content in plain, practical language.
  • We avoid inventing prices, opening hours or schedules. When details change often, we point readers to official sources.
  • We do not claim personal visits or experiences that we cannot support.
  • We correct errors when they are reported. You can send corrections through our contact page.

Our mission and values

We believe good travel information should be useful, visual and honest. Photography helps readers understand a place before they go, while practical notes help them arrive prepared. We also care about responsible visiting: respecting local communities, fragile heritage and natural environments. Many of the places in our series are homes, places of worship or protected landscapes, and we encourage readers to treat them that way.

How collections evolve

Our series are living collections. Over time we may add places, refresh information, replace photographs or introduce new themes. Reader suggestions play a part in that process, and you are welcome to suggest a place.
