No. 1 of 6 in The Hot Springs Series
Pamukkale
Denizli Province, Türkiye
Why it belongs in the series
Pamukkale's terraces are formed by mineral-rich water leaving white travertine deposits down a hillside. Combined with the ruins of ancient Hierapolis above, it is one of the most distinctive thermal landscapes anywhere.
How to get there
Pamukkale is near the city of Denizli in western Türkiye. Denizli has a bus station and regional airport, with local transport to Pamukkale village.
Best time to visit
Spring and autumn are milder than the hot summer. Early morning or late afternoon light is beautiful on the white terraces.
Good to know
Visitors are usually asked to walk barefoot on parts of the terraces to protect them. Bring sun protection, as the white surface reflects strong light.
Memorable momentWading through shallow warm pools as the white slopes glow pink at sunset.
